BEGINNINGS 1998 - 2000
The first HOUND icon has not made it into my archive and I therefore cannot date it, but the very number of iterations reveals him as one of the most difficult characters to capture. It might not make sense -- his helmet boasts one of the most linear designs of all -- but with him, I discovered how giving very straight shapes proper depth could take some doing. As many as 10 iterations stem from this early period, the orientation of his face and helmet along with the elusive military-oriented colour scheme (inconsistently depicted on the TV series, to boot) so elusive that I began to think I would never get the kind of result that you just instantly know is workable. During the Christmas week of 2000 -- alongside also working extensively on the Constructicons -- I finally came close to something useful and the efforts of this period became the foundation for his resurgence many years later.
SECOND WIND 2007 - 2011
One of the last characters I did a do-up on during the initial period, which began with OPTIMUS PRIME around January 20 and ended with IRONHIDE on March 5, HOUND finally got decked out in something closer to a military type of green, but the proportions and size were still largely neglected. Then, two years to the very day (this happens more than seems to be statistically likely), the first of two 2009 updates was only marginally larger, but much better proportioned, coloured and shaded. That, in turn, informed the second, which was finally significantly increased in size. That still left scale, which was partially corrected in 2011, but still a touch too small, making the current revision necessary.
